Our journey at Highland Gate began in 2014 with the purchase of stand 843. We were convinced that it was the most beautiful stand, as we all tend to believe.
Our goal was clear from the start, to create something exceptional surrounded by the serene landscapes of Highland Gate.
As new property owners, we faced challenges and had to make decisions, all while living full-time in Pretoria with busy professional lives.
Motivated by the pressing need to avoid R2000 penalties every month, we began excavation work in 2017. Despite being in the construction profession ourselves for the past three decades, we hired a local contractor and assumed the client role for once.
The next step was finding a dependable contractor for such an ambitious project in Dullstroom.
The best part of the story:
Our first call to a highly recommended contractor (who shall remain nameless) was answered on the golf course, with the suggestion to call back on Monday—shocking!
Imagine a client calling, and you respond, ‘I’m currently on the golf course; call me on Monday!’ What?!
Eventually, we found another contractor and decided they should only manage the brick and plasterwork, commonly called the structural shell, without any finishing.
With the help of our architect, we took control of the project’s design and managed the finishing, interior, and decor, achieving an amazing result completed in 2018. All the hard work paid off, and it was incredibly satisfying.
The proof is in the pudding. We present Stand 843 Highland Gate!

The Story didn't stop there...
Shortly after, Melissa, founder of Raremoon Projects (established in 2000), recognised the estate’s potential and approached her friend Anneline.
They decided to buy Stand 1006 together and build a 5-star guest house on the estate, which was completed in March 2019.
Melissa pursued her dream project, managing the project’s construction, design, finishing, and interior aspects, while Anneline continues to manage The Irish Rock Guest House to this day.”
This fresh approach to design and quality work quickly attracted the interest of many new clients in Highland Gate. This reinforced the demand for experienced, professional builders and well-organized projects for busy clients in other provinces.
We truly understand the challenges and excitement you face.
We’re always looking to build the next GREAT thing. Let’s talk.

Warmth and Personal Touch at Highland Gate Clubhouse 2019
Dullstroom and Highland Gate hold a special place in our hearts. When our son Paul and his bride Megan decided to marry in town, we knew it was the perfect venue for such a special occasion. The reception at Highland Gate’s clubhouse was warm and very personal. We highly recommend it and will always be grateful for these beautiful memories.
